DHA
stands for docosahexaenoic acid. It is a long-chain Omega-3
polyunsaturated fatty acid that has been shown to have substantial
health benefits to both mom and baby. It cannot be synthesized
by human body itself but supplied by the food. It is also a
key component of the heart. Numerous studies confirm that everyone,
from infants to adults, benefits from an adequate supply of
DHA.
Health Benefits:
- It is a major fatty acid and comprises portions of the brain
and retinal tissue. It is accounting for up to 97% of the omega-3
fats in the brain and up to 93% of the omega-3 fats in the retina.
- DHA is especially important for the development of our nervous
system and visual abilities during the first 6 months of life.
It dominates in the brain and visible development of infants,
especially being required by the pregnant and milk feeding women
as well as infants. DHA is present in breast milk and has been
added to some infant formulas.
- Dietary DHA may reduce the risk of heart disease by
reducing the level of blood triglycerides in humans. It’s
also a key component of the heart and cardiovascular system,
and one of the omega-3 fatty acids recommended by the American
Heart Association and USDA Dietary Guidelines for good cardiovascular
health.
Low levels of DHA result in reduction of brain serotonin levels
have been associated with ADHD, Alzheimer's disease, and depression,
among other diseases, and there is mounting evidence that DHA
supplementation may be effective in combating such diseases.
Most of the DHA in fish and more complex organisms originates
in photosynthetic and heterotrophic microalgae, and becomes
increasingly concentrated in organisms as it moves up the food
chain. |

Oilgin™ DHA
is DHA
commercially manufactured from microalgae (Crypthecodinium cohnii).
It is an all vegetable-source DHA. Be confident in knowing that
Oilgin™ DHA you are taking is from a non-fish source, so you
don't need to worry about the possible trace amounts of mercury,
PCBs, dioxins, environmental contaminants, or other environmental
concerns such as over-fishing, This is especially important
for pregnant and nursing women and young children. Oilgin™ DHA
should be used as a food additive, which are odorless and tasteless
after processing.
